Day 63 - 1 Mar - Teacapan
Photo: Wayne's little sand crab that he unearthed. I getting rid of my garden shovel...he's better!
We decided to stay one extra day at Teacapan and spend some time wandering up & down the beach. When we woke up we were wondering if we’d made a mistake as the fog was thick and you could hear waves, but you couldn’t see them. By 9 am we were so exhausted from waiting for the sun that we went back to bed and slept until 11 am. It’s not easy doing what we’re doing you know!
The sun came out….remind me again, what IS snow exactly?….and we had a quick lunch, changed into our bathing suits and hit the pool. There was a cool breeze off the ocean and that sort of masked the heat of the sun. Needless to say, I’m a tad red around the neck area but not too bad. After a while we headed down to the beach and lay there for a bit until it was time to poke around for sea shells. I managed to find one of those long narrow ones that looks like an icicle…it’s beautiful. I love to watch the pelicans glide over the top of the waves looking for fish—they can’t be more than 2 inches from the crest of the wave.
Wayne amused himself by trying to catch crabs. They burrow down in the sand along the tide line and you can see the ones that have managed to nab a small fish by the bones beside the little hole. Wayne did the ‘Dig Spot, Dig’ thing and when I saw him running back and forth across the sand, I knew he’d found one. They are only small but willing to stand and defend if necessary but when left alone, dig themselves back into the sand with their hind legs and disappear lickity split.
The whole afternoon we were the only souls on the beach for a far as we could see in either direction. A few RVs have pulled in today and we notice there are a couple who carry ATVs in the back of their pickup trucks…this is the idea place for that!
We are going to try and do 600 kms tomorrow…it wouldn’t be possible except that it’s all on the toll road. We want to try and get to the Mazatlan area and if we do, we’ll take the extra day to see the Copper Canyon. A number of years ago it was possible to load your RV on a railway flatbed car and take a stunning trip through the canyon, which is much like the Grand Canyon. However, some of the publicity photos showed people sitting on their lawnchairs, outside their RVs, enjoying the sights and at some point, the RV on the flatbed trips were cancelled. Surprising, since baby carseats seem non-existent here and driving in the back of a pickup is standard operating procedure…kids & adults. A truck pulled out of the gas station the other day ahead of us with 4 kids in the back, from 3 to about 8 yrs old and the older one was holding a 2 yr old in his lap.
There was the most exquisite sunset tonight….the entire sky was pink and orange and when we turned around to walk back to the van, there were pink streaks across the sky behind us. If you saw these sunsets painted on a canvas, you would never believe they could be natural but they are that beautiful and more.
I know…I just know…that Ty is missing his Honey & Poppa and that’s why he’s been sick. Poor little mite…Honey will give him that special love to make him better. However, Tim & Kim, please feel free to do whatever is necessary to clear up the damn vomiting and diarrhea before we get there!
Until next time, don’t let that shoveling get you down. It should be finished in another month or so. We love and miss you all. xx
